Long term, the region has seen a net increase of eighty-seven companies since 2006, a 44% increase. This significant growth is driven by the number of new companies formed in, or relocated to the region.
For every $1 invested through our research grants, $13.10 is generated in follow-on federal and private funding and returned to the region.
The Kansas City Region is home to ~35,000 employees working in the life sciences sector. Life sciences employees are defined by: engages in research and development for the benefit of humans, animals, or plants and/or directly supports research and development activities within life sciences.
Research grants are awarded to encourage regional collaboration and to stimulate the development and submission of major multidisciplinary proposals from life sciences researchers to government or private funding agencies.
Kansas City has powerful organizations embedded within an engaged life sciences and healthcare community. With an effective and responsive ecosystem, the KC region will leverage its expertise, assets and determination in fields such as rare disease, informatics and health equity.
We have played a key role in several life sciences initiatives and accomplishments in the region. We are proud to bring life sciences organizations together through collaboration and innovation and we look forward to the next 20 years and beyond.
